Two teenagers have been arrested following a violent altercation at the Westfield Marion Shopping Centre on Sunday, prompting a lockdown of the facility.
Just before 3pm on Sunday police were alerted to reports of two groups of young males engaged in a fight in the food court area of the centre.
Witnesses reported that some individuals involved in the altercation were armed with weapons.
Following investigations, two boys, aged 15 and 16, from Mitchell Park and Adelaide, were arrested and charged with assault, affray, and aggravated robbery.
Police also seized two expandable batons during the arrests.
In response to the incident, centre management activated an audible alert and evacuation alarm, initiating a lockdown of the shopping centre.
Numerous police resources, including officers from the STAR group, were dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough search for the groups involved in the disturbance. Despite these efforts, the groups were not located at the time.
Several shoppers who had taken refuge in stores were safely escorted out of the centre by police.
The teens are scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court later today.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate any remaining suspects involved in the incident. Police have stated that they do not believe the incident to be random.
